Nonprofit Leaders Discuss Challenges Facing Youth Development Programs in Baltimore

Goucher College will continue its Baltimore Speakers Series with “Challenges Facing Youth Development Programs in Baltimore,” a roundtable panel discussion among nonprofit leaders in the city.

The panel will be held on Thursday, November 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Piano Room of Welsh Hall, formerly known as the “T.” Please see the campus map at http://www.goucher.edu/x4643.xml for the exact location.

The discussion, which will focus on the challenges facing youth development programs and initiatives in Baltimore City, will be moderated by Michael Curry, France-Merrick professor in service learning. Panelists will include:

• Gin Ferrara, executive director of Wide Angle Youth Media
• Terry Hickey, executive director of Community Law in Action
• Ross Pologe, executive director of Fellowship of Lights, Inc. and a leader in homeless youth initiatives
• LaMarr Darnell Shields, CEO of Urban Leadership Institute
• Karen Stokes, executive director of Greater Homewood Community Corporation. 

David Simon — the Baltimore-based journalist, author, and writer-producer of television that takes on criminal justice and urban issues — kicked off this semester’s continuation of Goucher’s Baltimore Speakers Series, an initiative begun by the student government and the administration in 2007. The series brings local journalists, artists, activists, and leaders to campus to discuss the problems and progress of Baltimore and to get more students involved in community service and cultural activities in the city.
