Research Interests

I am interested in studying human memory systems, with applications in adult aging and in education. Much of my research has focused on working (i.e., short-term) memory, which is the ability to store and process information in concsiousness for relatively brief periods of time. Recent projects have explored the connection between working memory and aging, and between working memory and meta-cognition (e.g., the use of memory strategies such as mnemonic devices). I am also very interested in exploring the relationship between teaching practices and student memory for course material.

I have published research in Psychology and Aging, and have forthcoming articles in press in Aging, Neuropsychology, and Cognition and Memory and Cognition. Recent conference presentations have been made at the Annual Meeting of the Psychonomic Society, the Annual Convention of the Association for Psychological Science, and the National Institute on the Teaching of Psychology. Several of these presentations have been co-authored with undergraduate and graduate students.

Other

I adore spending time with my husband and our 1-year-old daughter Chloe. I read for fun whenever I have time (favorites include Your Personal Penguin”, “Snuggle Puppy”, and “Spot Bakes a Cake”), and I enjoy watching movies and reality TV shows.
