Distance Learning Librarian

Goucher College is seeking a part-time Distance Learning Librarian for students and faculty in its limited residency master’s degree programs. Current programs include Historic Preservation, Arts Administration, and Creative Non-Fiction; others may be added in the future. This position reports to the Access Services Librarian and provides access to all library services available to graduate students at a distance, including library circulating materials; our extensive collection of library subscription databases; electronic journals; and interlibrary loan services. This position also maintains continuous communication with Goucher’s distance students, to meet their various and unique information needs. Evening and weekend hours are required during the August residency period.

Responsibilities include:

· Serve as primary library liaison to campus individuals and groups responsible for distance learning. Work closely with staff of the Welch Center for Graduate & Professional Studies.

· Develop and maintain appropriate web pages as a tool to serve remote clientele. Maintain a Blackboard site for library services and participate in course Blackboard sites as requested.

· Design and recommend policies and procedures affecting remote clientele. Collect and maintain usage statistics.

· Provide research instruction and reference assistance to students in limited residency programs.

· Coordinate document delivery/interlibrary loan services for students in limited residency programs.

· Maintain familiarity with the library’s electronic collections.

· Maintain familiarity with issues and trends in distance education.

The successful candidate will have ALA accredited MLS and some academic library experience, strong service orientation, excellent oral and written communication skills, a positive interpersonal style, the ability to work independently and collaboratively; and flexibility, initiative, and creativity. Knowledge of web page development and the use of course management software preferred.
