Reporting to the Vice President and Dean of Students, the Associate Dean provides leadership for establishing programs and activities that foster an environment of commitment to and genuine appreciation for multiculturalism and diversity. Where appropriate the Associate Dean will serve on committees that assist with outreach to and retention of students of color; serve as a resource for faculty, staff, and students interested in enhancing their understanding and knowledge of all dimensions of diversity; and provide oversight for the office of community living, ensuring the delivery, through the Director of Community Living, of all residence life and judicial programs. In addition, the Associate Dean will provide oversight for the Educational Opportunity Program through the Director of Multicultural Student Services; supervise the Coordinator of the Goucher Disability Initiative; assist the Vice President and Dean of Students by working with students who are experiencing difficulty adjusting to college and/or problems associated with mental/emotional health and behavioral issues; assist with major ceremonies and programs sponsored by the Dean of Students office; and serve in the dean-on-call rotation.
Qualified applicants will have a Master's degree, with a PhD preferred; 3-5 years of administrative and supervisory experience; commitment to and appreciation of all dimensions of diversity, as demonstrated by prior work and/or volunteer experiences; experience working with underrepresented students; knowledge of student development and experience working with college students in multiple settings; experience working with faculty and staff colleagues from various departments; experience administering a budget; and excellent written and oral communication skills.
