Reporting to the Associate Dean for Community Living and Multicultural Affairs, the Director of Multicultural Student Services will be responsible for directing a comprehensive set of services for the Educational Opportunity Program (a program for first-generation college students from Maryland who come from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds and show intellectual promise for being successful at Goucher). The director will develop and implement support services for international students, conduct outreach to Asian American, African American, Latino, and Native American (ALANA) students, and develop programs that affirm these students and provide opportunities for intercultural learning for all constitutent groups. The Director will collaborate with colleagues across campus to assist with institutional retention efforts; work with the Director of New Student Programs to assure the successful transition of EOP, international, and all first-year ALANA students; work closely with the Associate Dean for Community Living and Multicultural Affairs in a leadership role in assisting Community Living Coordinators with developing and implementing diversity initiatives as part of their programming responsibilities for residential students; and collaborate with the Coordinator of Multicultural Recruitment on diversity initiatives for underrepresented students.
Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, and a Master’s degree is highly preferred. The Director should have 3-5 years of experience that includes administration, budget, and supervision of other staff, as well as a history of working with a diverse student population in a teaching, counseling, or mentoring role; s/he must be able to demonstrate an understanding of and appreciation for the complexities of student development. Experience with students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds is highly desirable. The Director must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, good organizational skills, and the abilty to work effectively with faculty and staff in other administrative offices to support student success.
