Technical Director

Goucher College seeks a full-time technical director for a small but active liberal arts theatre program. Responsibilities include managing and executing the build and light hang for 4-8 productions/showcases per year in a 120 seat (flexible) black box theatre; supervising technical rehearsals when needed; maintaining the theatre, scene shop, and storage areas as well as lighting and sound equipment; budgeting and purchasing equipment and production materials; supervising and training paid student staff, students seeking academic credit, and volunteers in set construction, lighting, sound, and props; teaching theatre production lab each spring; and designing lights and/or sets for one or more productions per year as needed.

The successful candidate must have strong organization and communication skills; a dedication to safety, quality, and detail; an ability to establish and adhere to timelines; the ability and desire to mentor students in accepted theatre practices; the ability to support and value the work of student, faculty, and guest designers; and the ability to contribute as a team member to departmental conversations regarding decisions about the season, scheduling, and facility improvements with an understanding of the educational mission of an undergraduate liberal arts program.

Qualified candidates will have a Master’s degree. M.F.A. in technical theatre preferred. Proficiency in carpentry, rigging, lighting, sound, and drafting (Vectorworks) is a plus. Previous experience working with undergraduate students is desirable. This position is a ten-month staff contract with a generous benefits package.
