Ethernet Card
In order to connect to the campus network, your computer must have an Ethernet card. Please note that this is not the same thing as a modem.
Computing Services will assist students with network configurations and network software installations.
If you are purchasing a new computer for use on campus, make sure it comes with an Ethernet card.
If your computer does not have an Ethernet card, you can purchase one at any major computer retailer. Most vendors that sell network cards also offer installation services. If you have a vendor install the card for you, make sure they provide you with all documentation and driver disks that came with the network card.
Ethernet Network Cable (RJ45)
In addition to an Ethernet card, you should also have an Ethernet network cable (RJ45). Please note that this is not the same thing as a phone cable.
A network cable is sometimes included when you purchase a network card. If you do not have a network cable, you can purchase one at any major computer retailer. A 25-foot network cable should be long enough for any dorm room on campus.
