Goucher College’s Opera Workshop will present a fully staged production of Stephen Sondheim’s innovative musical “Company” at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, and Thursday, May 8, in Merrick Lecture Hall.
This event is free and open to the public, but it is not recommended for children. For more information, contact Richard Hartzell at 410-337-6149 or richard.hartzell@goucher.edu.
“Company” tells the story of Robert, a bachelor who spends his 35th birthday contemplating his relationships with married couples and female friends as he tries to decide whether to get married. “Company” won the Tony Award for best musical, best music and lyrics, and several other awards. It also has had two major Broadway revivals.
Goucher’s production of “Company” will be performed by a cast of 19 and a small orchestra. It is directed by Paula Witthauer ’00, with music direction by Richard Hartzell and Carol Wolfe-Ralph.
This production is a departure for Goucher’s Music Department, which principally has presented operatic productions. The most recent “mainstage” musical at Goucher was the Theatre Department’s 2001-2002 production of Marc Blitzstein’s “The Cradle Will Rock.”
