Director of EOP

Description:

Primarily responsible for coordinating and administering the activities and programs of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), overseeing the budget, preparing reports and serving as a liaison between the faculty and staff who assist in the coordination of the program. The Director supervises student employees and coordinates the delivery of academic support with professional staff and faculty members; plans professional development programs for faculty and staff and training for student employees; and prepares annual reports. This is a part-time position that reports to the Associate Dean for Community Living and Multicultural Affairs

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

o Collaborates with the Admissions Office in recruiting, reviewing, selecting and recommending candidates for admission to EOP.

o Designs a half-day orientation program for EOP students and their families to take place as soon as possible following high school commencement exercises.

o Prepares the schedule for the four-week summer bridge program and collaborates with faculty to oversee the logistics for the inclusion of the English, math and analytical reading components.

o Collaborates with faculty and community living staff to hire and train students who will serve as resident assistants, peer mentors, and tutors for the summer program.

o Supervises all student employees and authorizes payroll and stipends to EOP participants. o Works with community living staff to assign students to summer housing. o Develops the workshops for study skills, time management, and college transition skills; serves as facilitator for selected sessions.

o Provides students with weekly social/cultural activities that may take place on/off campus.

o Plans and coordinates the summer closing event for EOP students, their families and invited guests.

o Prepares a report of the summer program that includes an analysis of student progress in the instructional areas provided and all other component parts of the program.

o Collaborates with all appropriate faculty and staff to promote a “seamless” transition of EOP students into the college community especially at the start of the fall semester.

o Coordinates the ongoing 1-1 peer-mentoring process that will take place throughout the academic year.

o Meets regularly with mentors to evaluate mentor/mentee relationships and provides training as appropriate.

o Meets regularly with EOP students in individual and group settings to monitor students’ progress and identify any concerns.

o Collaborates with staff in ACE to provide “focused” tutoring for EOP students.

o Plans and facilitates regular meetings of all constituent groups that provide support for EOP.

o Plans two, day-long retreats at the end of the fall and spring semesters to provide students with the opportunity to participate in detailed dialogue about the program and to identify areas of strength and weakness.

o Collaborates with coordinator of grants and staff in institutional research to prepare annual reports for the College and all funding agencies that provide financial support to the program, making recommendations where appropriate.

o Monitors the annual budget for the program.

o Assists with special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

o Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required, Master’s preferred.

o Proven success working with a diverse student population in a teaching, counseling or mentoring role, preferably with economically disadvantaged/first-generation college students.

o 2-3 years of administrative experience, with budgetary and supervisory responsibilities.

o Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, commitment to diversity, and ability to work collaboratively with faculty and other administrative offices to support student success.
