Community Living Coordinator

The Department of Community Living and Multi-Cultural Affairs is committed to providing high quality administrative services and educational programs that foster a supportive living and learning environment for 1200 resident students. Reporting to the Director of Community Living, the Community Living Coordinator (CLC) provides support, programming, information, counseling, and referrals to the general student population and specifically to several residence halls and the Community Assistant staff therein. In addition, the CLC supports and advises multi-cultural programs and organizations.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree in student personnel, higher education, counseling, or other related field, strongly preferred. Minimum of 1 year experience working in a residential life environment (undergraduate or graduate). Qualified applicants will have direct experience in judicial processes and student behavior management; excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as strong problem-resolution skills; a demonstrated value for multiculturalism, and experience serving and working with a diverse student population.

Specific Duties

  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Community Assistants in 1-5 residence halls.
  • Be highly visible and available in the residence halls and campus, by maintaining regular office hours and weekly walk through of the buildings.
  • Assist and supervise student staff in developing, implementing, and evaluating residence hall educational and social programs.
  • Work directly with multi-cultural programs and organizations.
  • Advise students, mediate conflicts, and make referrals to appropriate on- and off-campus agencies for specialized assistance. Follow-up on resident concerns.
  • Participate in departmental administrative functions such as: room selection process, vandalism reduction efforts and related programming, security and fire prevention efforts and related programming, damage billing, and facility inspections and serving as a liaison with Facilities Management personnel
  • Serve as an administrative hearing officer for minor violations of the Student Judicial Code and assist with other aspects of conduct administration as needed.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide assistance with emergencies/crisis situations.
  • Serve as a resource and representative of the college, the division, and the department at college-sponsored programs. Assist in the development of such programs, as appropriate.
  • Serve on campus-wide initiatives and committees.
  • Serve on departmental committees.
  • Manage various year-long processes (e.g., judicial board; staff selection; House council; diversity programs).
  • Other projects as assigned or negotiated.
