Assistant Director of Student Activities for Leadership Development

The Assistant Director of Student Activities for Leadership Development will provide leadership and suggest future directions as the student activities office seeks to provide high quality programs, publications, and services to individual students, student clubs and special interest groups, students’ families, and the Goucher College community.

The Assistant Director’s primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing direction for a comprehensive set of leadership programs to address the needs of students at various stages of leadership development. This includes the planning of the annual Emerging Leaders initiative, LEAD program for sophomores, Goucher Leadership Council, Senior Capstone program, and leadership recognition processes; serving as liaison to clubs and organizations; advising appropriate Student Government Association officers, and providing training to positional leaders. This also includes overseeing club office space, developing resource materials; supporting and providing resources for club advisers, and updating website with club information. The Assistant Director will also serve as the adviser for sophomore, junior, and senior class officers; supervise student office employees that provide office coverage and marketing for events coordinated by the Student Activities Office; develop major office publications including the Campus Handbook and Parent Handbook; serve in the Student Activities Office on-call rotation; and provide evening and weekend coverage for major campus events including new student Orientation and Family Weekend.

The successful candidate must have a Master’s degree in student affairs administration or related area and 1-2 years of experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills; experience in leadership education or training; significant experience in supervising student staff and/or advising student organizations; the flexibility to work in an active office environment; a willingness to work irregular hours including coverage for many evening and weekend programs; and an ability to work collaboratively with all members of the college community.
