Baltimore Speakers Series

This spring, Goucher College continues its Baltimore Speakers Series with the following free, public events:

Marc Steiner, former WYPR-FM  radio show host and president of the Center for Emerging Media, will give a talk titled “Examining the Current State of Baltimore” on Wednesday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Buchner Hall in the Alumnae/i House.

Goucher President Sanford J. Ungar will moderate “Bodymore, Murderland: A Panel Discussion on Violent Crime in Baltimore” on Thursday, April 24, at 8 p.m. in Buchner Hall in the Alumnae/i House. The panelists will be:

  • Marcie Jones Brennan, Baltimore crime blogger and author
  • Robert Cherry, detective with the Baltimore Police Department’s Homicide Unit
  • Sunni Khalid, senior reporter for WYPR-FM
  • Margaret A. Mead, criminal defense litigator with Mead, Flynn & Gray, PA
  • John N. Prevas, chief judge of the Baltimore City Circuit Court, 8th Judicial Circuit
 

C. Fraser Smith, Baltimore Sun columnist, senior news analyst for WYPR-FM, and author, will discuss “Tracing Civil Rights in Maryland” on Tuesday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Heubeck Lounge.

Goucher’s Baltimore Speakers Series, an initiative of the student government and the administration, brings local journalists, artists, activists, and leaders to campus to discuss the problems and progress of Baltimore and to get more students involved in community service and cultural activities in the city.
