The Assistant Director of Student Activities for Programming reports to the Director of Student Activities and is a member of the student activities team. The Student Activities Office coordinates a variety of on and off campus programs, services and activities, which serve to improve the quality of life and enhance the collegiate experience for all students, as well as their family members. Sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student body and a commitment to fostering students’ social, personal, and intellectual development consistent with the needs of a liberal arts community are necessary.
Specific Responsibilities
The Assistant Director of Student Activities for programming is responsible for providing vision and direction for social programming at Goucher. S/he will utilize feedback and assessment and implement new, creative ideas in an effort to elevate the overall quality of social programming. The Assistant Director will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the Information Desk; planning and implementing off-campus programs; supervising the event planning staff; coordinating quality large-scale programs; providing services and programs to commuter students; and maintaining the game room and other related programming facilities. Additional responsibilities include:
· Oversee Pearlstone Student Center Information Desk. This includes, but is not limited to:
-Coordinating special event and area attraction ticket sales; maintaining printed information such as maps, bus, and train schedules and area attractions; recreation equipment check-out; bus trip sign ups; and other campus information; maintaining off campus housing;
-Supervising student staff that provides front-line service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors at the Information Desk; coordinating student schedules; facilitate training sessions and on-going development for the student staff;
-Planning, implementing, and marketing a variety of off-campus bus trips for students to promote explorations of activities in the Towson and Baltimore area, as well as other regional attractions.
· Supervise and further develop the Event Planning Staff (a staff of students who plan a variety of small programs). The primary emphasis is on expanding daytime, evening, and weekend programs along with the related marketing efforts.
· Serve as the point person for logistics, marketing, and implementation of major campus programs sponsored by the Student Activities Office. Conduct needs and post-event assessments for a variety of programming and marketing efforts by the Student Activities Office.
· Serve as the adviser and liaison for commuter students. Oversee the Commuter Lounge in the Pearlstone Student Center and programming for commuter students.
· Serve as a link between commuting and resident students.
· Upkeep of Pearlstone Student Center game room and other student center facilities.
· Serve in the Student Activities Office on-call rotation and provide evening and weekend coverage for major campus events including orientation programs and Family Weekend.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in student affairs administration or related area preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills; significant experience in supervising student staff and/or advising student organizations; event planning experience; the flexibility to work in an active office environment; a willingness to work irregular hours including coverage for many evening and weekend programs; and an ability to work collaboratively with all members of the college community is required.
