The Marseille Theatre Conservatory will visit Goucher College on Wednesday, February 20, and Thursday, February, 21, to perform Autour de Daniel Keene, a collection of playwright Daniel Keene's short plays that present concentrated vignettes of daily life.
The production will be performed in three parts – three one-hour performances will take place both days at 6:30 p.m., 7:45 p.m., and 9 p.m. in Goucher College's Mildred Dunnock Theatre. The performances are free and open to the public.
Keene, an Australian playwright known for his dark, insightful, edgy, and absurd plays, has won awards in Australia, Europe, and the United States and has become one of France's most popular playwrights.
The Marseille Theatre Conservatory prepares theater students for professional careers as actors. Their visit builds on the relationship established with Goucher College in 2007, when the French Theatre in Paris and Marseille study-abroad program held a workshop at the conservatory. Goucher will host 16 of the conservatory students on campus from February 17 to 24, and there will be a reception to to celebrate the performances on Thursday, February 21, at 10 p.m. in the T-Building commons room. The students' stay is a great opportunity for Goucher students to speak French, to speak with French people their own age, and to get to know French culture better. Goucher students will have another chance to visit the conservatory when the French Theatre Program is offered in spring 2009.
The performances are sponsored by the Theatre and Modern Languages and Literatures departments.
