Since signing the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment in 2007, the Goucher College community has made important strides in our effort to become more environmentally sustainable. We have completed a campus-wide greenhouse gas emissions inventory, partnered with Zipcar, purchased Renewable Energy Certificates, began composting all the food waste in our dining halls, and hosted a series of farmers’ markets and other "green" events, among other initiatives and activities. Our efforts have earned us a B+ on the Sustainable Endowments Institute's 2010 College Sustainability Report Card, but we still have much work to do.
Within the pages of this website are tools to help you learn about Goucher’s current campaign to promote environmental sustainability, as well as what you can do – and what resources are available to you – to help make Goucher more sustainable. We encourage you to use this site to find more ways to conserve energy, to plan environmental events, and to develop new ways to help Goucher live up to our goals of making our campus and the communities both healthier and more sustainable.
As you know, environmental sustainability is a critical component of the college's Strategic Plan. It is primarily through the efforts of our students, faculty, and staff that we can become a more environmentally friendly place to work, learn, and live. So make suggestions – Goucher needs your help!
