Psych Club: Baby Shower for Dr. Dara Friedman-Wheeler

November 06, 2007 |

Dr. Dara Friedman-Wheeler  is expecting her first child in mid-December, and the Psych Club held a baby shower to celebrate.  Many students, faculty, and guests from outside Psychology gathered together in the well-docorated Soper Room.

There was a plenty of food--pizza, drinks, snacks, and healthy foods as well--to add to the joyful atmosphere of the occasion. Special thanks to Hilda Rizzo-Busack (Class of '11) for her great help and delicious chocolate chip cookies.  Professors and students alike mixed and mingled as Dr. Friedman-Wheeler received numerous congratulations for her upcoming newborn.

Dr. Friedman-Wheeler and her husband haven't yet chosen a name for their son, and, in their thoughtful effort to make the naming process easier for the new parents-to-be's, the students had sumitted their favorite names on a piece of paper in the beginning of the baby shower.  What was the most popular name in the Department of Psychology?  Well, when they were finally tallied, it turned out that there were well-over dozen ties.  All very distinctive names were suggested, and there was no winner! Suggestions included the names such as James Haylen, Shredder, Hartford, Remy, Atticus, Aidan, Rutheford, Sue, and Ralph (this was Dr. Rick Pringle's submission!).  Other names were more representative of Psychology, such as Sigmund (Freud) and Burrhus (F. Skinner).

Opening their baby shower gifts stirred up much laughter and interest as well.  Dr. Friedman-Wheeler received cards with sweet wishes and many adorable presents that any baby would love, including new outfits, toys, books, and much more!

Overall, thisjoyous occasion was a lot of fun, and the Goucher Psych Club wishes Dr. Friedman-Wheeler and her new and growing family many happy years ahead!
