Director of International Studies

Goucher College invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of International Studies.

Founded in 1885, Goucher College is a vibrant, coeducational liberal arts college located on a beautiful, 287-acre wooded campus just north of Baltimore, with an enrollment of approximately 1,500 undergraduate and 400 FTE graduate students.

In 2006, because we believe that international awareness is necessary for anyone who wants to lead a satisfying and successful life in the global community of today, Goucher College became the first college in the nation to require all of its undergraduates to study abroad at least once before graduation. To aid in this commitment, Goucher gives every student a voucher of at least $1,200 to help cover travel expenses. Reporting to the Provost, the Director will oversee the office of International Studies and offer leadership to help realize Goucher’s emphasis on international and intercultural learning, as described in the College’s strategic plan. S/he will engage in research to identify and analyze trends in higher education abroad, while working closely with the academic departments to oversee the implementation and integration of the study-abroad requirement into the curriculum, developing off-campus study opportunities around the world (both semester-long programs and three-week intensive courses in January and May/June), and working with the Provost on curriculum transformation.

The successful candidate will possess a master’s degree and have at least three years of leadership experience in international programs (preferably within a college/university setting), including demonstrated success in promoting education abroad. S/he will have the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, students, and administration; and exhibit a strong commitment to liberal arts education. The ideal candidate will have a doctorate, be fluent in at least one language besides English, have lived or studied abroad, possess familiarity with visa regulations, and have previous experience with supervising staff and overseeing a complex study abroad budget.

Goucher College is committed to increasing the diversity of the campus community and encourages applicants who will help fulfill that mission. Applicants should send a cover letter, CV and the names and contact information three references to: Goucher College, Human Resources, 1021 Dulaney Valley Road, Baltimore, MD 21204. Review of applications will begin December 3, 2007 and will continue until the position is filled.

Goucher College is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
