Five years ago, Goucher College adopted a new strategic plan that outlined our vision for the future—not only of this institution, but of liberal education itself.

If that sounds a bit bold, that’s fine with us. Goucher has always encouraged its students to think audaciously about the world around them and how they can best serve it. Why would we hold ourselves to any lower standard?

What we have done in the time since has been audacious indeed. We have distinguished ourselves by becoming the first—and still the only—traditional liberal arts college in the nation to require every undergraduate to study abroad. We have broken ground for a new centerpiece building that embodies in physical sense our ideals with respect to the intellectual, cultural, and social life of our community. We have taken steps toward attaining those ideals by expanding our campus population, enhancing its diversity, and strengthening the educational and cultural programs we offer.

With the help of a dedicated core of benefactors and allies, we have demonstrated our ability to make good on the promises and commitments of our strategic plan. And now, with the public launch of this campaign, we reach out to all those far and wide who understand the importance of what we are trying to achieve, and who wish to see Goucher claim its rightful position of prominence among our nation’s best and most inventive educational institutions.
