We believe that a complete liberal arts education for the twenty-first century must provide a rich global context for students’ learning—and abundant opportunities for meaningful, firsthand international and intercultural experience.

We have already taken the revolutionary step of requiring all undergraduates to study abroad at least once before graduation. We are the first national liberal arts college to do so. And we are committed to supporting these experiences through a guaranteed voucher of $1,200 for every student.

The richness of the experiences our students have out in the world depends implicitly on the richness of their experience in our classrooms. We will undergird our global vision of higher education with an academic program that provides them with the fundamental knowledge and skills they will need to navigate the global communities we will encourage them to explore.

At the same time, we will never lose sight of the strong majors, programs, and curricular offerings that have been the source of Goucher College’s institutional strength throughout its history. We will preserve the environment of close personal interaction among students, staff, and highly accomplished faculty that is Goucher’s trademark. And we will persist in our efforts to attract, support, and retain the best and most promising scholars for our faculty and student body alike, rewarding great achievement and making possible their continued success.
