Required Documents

Here's a list of required items that international students must submit when applying as a first-year student.  All documents must be translated to English.

  • Common Application form and Goucher supplement
  • $55 application fee or NACAC/College Board fee waiver
  • essay with a minimum of 500 words (from the Common App)
  • secondary school transcript
  • secondary school advisor report (this could be from a school counselor or administrator)
  • academic teacher recommendation
  • Declaration of Finances form (PDF)  with accompanying bank statements
  • CSS PROFILE - for students applying for need-based aid
  • standardized testing official score reports: It's optional to submit scores from the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT. Score reports should be submitted directly from the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, NJ (Goucher’s CEEB code is 5257), or the American College Testing program in Ames, IA (Goucher ACT code is 1696).
  • Applicants whose first language is not English are expected to submit the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. Testing must be completed by February 1 of senior year. Students should have a score of 80 or higher on the TOEFL iBT (213 computer-based or 550 paper-based) or at least a 6.5 band score on the IELTS exam to be considered for admission to Goucher. Students who have attended a secondary school where English is the primary language of instruction are exempt from the TOEFL/IELTS requirement.

If you're applying as an international transfer student, you must submit:

  • Common Application form and Goucher supplement
  • $55 application fee or NACAC/College Board fee waiver
  • essay with a minimum of 500 words (from the Common App)
  • official university transcript(s)
  • official course descriptions
  • recommendation letter from an academic teacher or professor
  • official secondary school transcript (for applicants who have attempted fewer than 30 university credits)
  • Declaration of Finances form (PDF)  with accompanying bank statements
  • CSS PROFILE - for students applying for need-based aid
  • Applicants who are not native speakers of English are expected to submit the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Testing must be completed by February 1 of senior year.  Students should have a score of 80 or higher on the iBT to be considered for admission to Goucher.
 

Deadlines

 International applicants should follow the same deadlines as all other applicants, as follows:

  • Binding Early Decision I
    • Application + supporting materials submitted by November 15
    • Notification mailed by December 15
    • Candidate deposit mailed by January 15
  • Non-Binding Early Action
    • Application + supporting materials submitted by December 1
    • Notification mailed by February 1
    • Candidate reply mailed by May 1
  • Binding Early Decision II
    • Application + supporting materials submitted by January 15
    • Notification mailed by February 15
    • Candidate deposit mailed by March 15
  • Non-Binding Regular Decision
    • Application + supporting materials submitted by February 1
    • Notification mailed by April 1
    • Candidate reply submitted by May 1
  • Transfer: Fall Semester
    • Application + supporting materials submitted by May 1 for priority consideration
    • Notification on a rolling basis
    • Candidate reply mailed by two weeks after notification of admission
  • Transfer: Spring Semester
    • Application + supporting materials submitted by December 1 for priority consideration
    • Notification on a rolling basis
    • Candidate reply mailed by two weeks after notification of admission

International Baccalaureate

In addition to recognizing the rigor of the IB curriculum in the admissions review process, Goucher will grant credit for examination scores of at least 5 in higher-level subject areas. Enrolling students will be placed in courses at the discretion of each department. Completion of a full IB curriculum may result in sophomore standing.

Goucher also recognizes for advanced credit academic work completed through such programs as the General Certificate of Education A-level, French Baccalaureate, and German Abitur, among others.
