Dancers in Action Fall Dance Concert

Goucher College’s 2007 Dancers in Action Fall Dance Concert -- held Thursday, November 15, through Saturday, November 17, in Kraushaar Auditorium -- will feature choreography by guest artists William Whitener and Roger C. Jeffrey and premiere works by Goucher faculty.

The November 15 show is at 11 a.m., while the concerts on November 16 and 17 will both take place at 8 p.m. Tickets for all shows are $15 general admission and $8 for students and senior citizens. Goucher OneCards will be accepted. Call 410-337-6333 for tickets.

The program will feature "In the Huts 9224," a new group work that Jeffrey set to a score by Philip Glass.

Jeffrey, the artistic director of Subtle Changes Inc. in New York City, is working with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet Company and Lar Lubovitch Dance Company. He has taught and choreographed for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, Philadanco!, CityDance Ensemble, the Juilliard School, La Companya in Spain, and Tanz Project in Germany, among others.

Whitener’s piece "Anniversary Waltz" is set to Alexander Glazunov’s "Concert Waltz No.2." He is the artistic director of the Kansas City Ballet and has dedicated the piece to the company’s former artistic directors Tatiana Dokoudovska and Todd Bolender.

Whitener also has performed and choreographed works for Broadway and television, as well as for ballet companies such as the Boston Ballet and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.

Three Goucher faculty members will also debut original works at the concert.

Assistant Professor of Dance Elizabeth Lowe Ahearn’s piece "Moving Figures -- Silent Voices" is choreographed to the music of Erikk-Sven Tuur.

"Double Entrendre," the new work by Amanda Thom Woodson, chair of the department of dance, explores movement on two planes -- on the floor and in the air. 

Assistant Professor of Dance Glenna Blessing will present "Good Housekeeping: The Icing In Between."
