Special Collections Librarian and College Archivist

This position is responsible for managing the Special Collections and Archives department of the Goucher College Library. Special Collections include rare books and archival collections that enhance the curriculum, with particular concentrations in English language and literature, U.S. politics, international and peace studies, women’s history, dance and theater. The Burke Jane Austen Collection and the H.L. and Sara Haardt Mencken Collection are internationally recognized.

Requirements: ALA-accredited MLS, 3-5 years experience in archives and special collections management, including the training and supervision of students and volunteers. Qualified applicants will have a strong service orientation, excellent oral and written communication skills, a positive interpersonal style, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and flexibility, initiative, and creativity. Experience with collections management software, digitization, and grant-writing; as well as experience with moving a collection and subject knowledge in at least one of Goucher’s collecting areas is preferred.

Goucher College is a selective private liberal arts college of about 1500 students, located in suburban Baltimore with easy access to Washington, DC and other major northeastern cities. The college is currently constructing the Athenaeum, a central focus for our campus, which will house the library, an expanded archival space, and other college units.
