Goucher has joined hundreds of other higher education institutions to support the University & College Accountability Network (U-CAN), a new Web-based project to provide free, comprehensive information to prospective students and their families.
Instituted by the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, U-CAN is designed to give concise and comparable profiles of individual private colleges and universities using objective and measurable data.
Each participating institution provides data and narrative information regarding admissions, enrollment, academics, student demographics, graduation rates, faculty information, tuition and fees trends, financial aid, housing, student life, and campus safety.
Currently, there is no single objective consumer resource to help students choose a college or university that best fits their needs. There has been a lot of criticism recently of the U.S. News & World Report’s annual ranking of America's best colleges. The U-CAN initiative gained momentum and national attention when dozens of colleges and universities — including Goucher — announced their decisions not to participate in the heavily weighted reputational surveys of the ranking report.
For more information about U-CAN or to view Goucher College’s profile, see www.ucan-network.org.
