Assistant Director of Annual Giving for the Goucher Society

Founded in 1885 and located on a beautiful 287-acre wooded campus just north of Baltimore, Goucher College is a selective, coeducational liberal arts college with an enrollment of 1,450 undergraduate and 400 FTE graduate students and more than 14,000 living alumnae/i.

Scope: The Assistant Director of Annual Giving for the Goucher Society reports to the Director of Annual Giving. The Goucher Society recognizes donors who contribute $1,250 to $25,000 to the college’s Annual Fund. The Assistant Director oversees all aspects of the society to ensure maximum results in both participation and funds raised.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving, the Assistant Director has primary responsibility for the organization, planning, solicitation, and operation of the Goucher Society fundraising programs and essential support activities.

Major Duties: The Assistant Director is responsible for the management of approximately 400 current members of the Society and will carry a portfolio of approximately 200 donor prospects. The successful candidate will recruit and manage a cadre of fundraising volunteers drawn from the ranks of alumnae/i. He/she will be responsible for developing and executing fundraising strategies; including peer solicitation, staff solicitation, direct mail, e-mail, and phonathon contact. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for identifying and qualifying prospects that have the capability to make a major gift to the college.

Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree is required. The preferred applicant will have an advanced degree; three or more years of progressively responsible experience in development programs, particularly in the area of annual funds; as well as experience with capital campaigns, strategic planning, and volunteer recruitment/management in higher education. The successful candidate will also have demonstrated experience working independently and managing several ongoing projects simultaneously, and must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Travel, including night and weekend hours, is required.
