Goucher College invites and encourages nominations for the following position within the Division of Development and Alumnae/i Affairs:
Editor of the Goucher Quarterly
Founded in 1885, Goucher College is a selective, coeducational liberal arts college located on a beautiful 287-acre wooded campus just north of Baltimore, with more than 1,450 undergraduate students, 400 FTE graduate students, and more than 14,000 living alumnae/i.
Scope: The Editor of the Goucher Quarterly reports to the Executive Director of Alumnae/i Affairs. In conjunction with the Vice President for Development and Alumnae/i Affairs and Executive Director of Alumnae/i Affairs, the Editor will determine content that supports and advances the goals of the college’s Strategic Plan and comprehensive fundraising campaign. By being a visible presence on campus and in touch with other offices and academic departments, s/he ensures that the magazine reflects the current life of the college.
Major Duties: Oversees all aspects of writing, editing, and production of the college’s flagship publication (4-color, 76 pages), which is mailed four times per year to 18,500 members of the Goucher College community. Generates content and/or assigns articles to freelance and campus-based authors. Manages a volunteer network of nearly 80 Class Notes correspondents. Updates website with feature stories and other selected content. Works closely with photographers, designers, and other vendors to ensure quality, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness. Supervises student assistant.
Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or other writing-related field (master’s degree preferred) and 5-7 years of related experience, preferably in a liberal arts college environment; excellent written and interpersonal skills.
