Educational Opportunity Program

Launched in the fall of 2006, Goucher's Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) expands access to the college’s educational offerings among financially disadvantaged students in Maryland.

In the program's first year, five Maryland students were selected to receive free tuition, room and board, and a stipend over four years, as long as they remain in good academic standing.

The program offers a free, four-week "bridge" program over the summer to help these students prepare for first-year college courses in English and math, as well as other special assistance with the transition to a challenging, liberal arts environment.

EOP students are integrated in every way with the rest of the student body at Goucher, and are expected to study abroad at least once under our new international requirement.

The initial, three-year phase of the program has been funded by the Jessie Ball duPont Fund and the generous contributions of individual donors. Goucher hopes to expand the program in the future, offering it to more students, including students from other states.
