Founded in 1885, Goucher College is a selective, coeducational liberal arts college located on a beautiful 287acre wooded campus just north of Baltimore, with an enrollment of 1,450 undergraduate and 400 FTE graduate students and more than 14,000 living alumnae/i. In October, Goucher will launch a comprehensive capital campaign with an $80 million goal.

Scope: The Major Gifts Officers report to the Executive Director of Development. They will each be responsible for managing a portfolio of approximately 125 - 150 donor prospects.

Basic Responsibilities: The Major Gifts officers have primary responsibility for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts prospects and will conduct a minimum of twelve to fifteen personal visits a month, entailing national travel. Additionally, the major gifts officers will help plan and coordinate donor events, promote the college’s annual fund and planned giving, and develop long-term relationships with the alumnae/i, parents, and friends of Goucher College. There will be occasional travel with the President, Vice President for Development, Provost, or other college officials.

Major Duties: Develop individual cultivation and solicitation strategies for donor prospects as well as timelines for gifts. Solicit and close gifts. Help develop pipeline of prospective donors. Work closely with Executive Director of Development, campaign leadership, and development and alumnae/i affairs staff.

Requirements: A bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. Other desired qualifications include five-to-seven years experience in Major Gifts, and a proven track record of solicitation. Experience in capital campaigns within an academic environment, as well as strategic planning experience, would be helpful. Highly valued assets include exceptional interpersonal skills, negotiation and motivation skills, familiarity with the liberal arts college environment, international awareness, and a sense of humor.
