Goucher College welcomes you to the American College Dance Festival Association Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference March 12 - 15, 2008

Dear Dance Colleague:

This information is intended to be our last formal communication before the conference. Thank you for your patience during the registration process. The conference has taken exciting shape, and I am looking forward to seeing you in March. Thirty schools are registered, and close to 600 students and faculty will be joining us.

As expected, we are at maximum capacity. You may now find a list of institutions attending on our website. Also, you will find technical rehearsal schedules for Adjudication Concerts I-IV, the Informal Concert, and the Faculty Showcase, along with the updated Conference Schedule of Classes and Events.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you see any conflicts between your institution’s technical rehearsal(s)/performance time(s) and your assigned teaching time(s), if applicable. Assigned adjudication time slots cannot be changed, but assigned teaching times may be altered with sufficient notice. My sincere thanks to all those who volunteered to teach. We did our best to utilize all of you, but arrival times and conflicting schedules made it impossible to take advantage of the multitude of talent.

Conference Registration: For those arriving on Wednesday, March 12, registration will be in the Rosenberg Gallery (Kraushaar Auditorium Lobby) from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and will continue on Thursday, March 13 at 8 a.m. A Goucher representative will be present for your conference registration, to answer your questions and direct you to classes. Your registration packets will include your badge, which enables you to enter all conference events and classes, as well as your tickets to the LINES performance. At registration you may also sign up for rehearsal space, a Pilates reformer session, or massage appointment. Please note that master classes begin on the first day-we kindly request that you register first, and then dance.

Class Registration: Posted below you will find the Conference Schedule of Classes and Events, which is subject to change if problems arise. Classes, as well as attendance at the Faculty Showcase and Informal Concert, will be open on a first-come, first-served basis. Please remind your students to attend classes at their appropriate technical level. All classes will be held on Goucher’s campus and at the Carver Center for Arts and Technology. There is sufficient time between classes to make room and location changes, but note that you will need to provide your own transportation from one location to the other.

Pre-Assigned Tickets: We have pre-assigned tickets to the adjudicator and LINES Ballet classes. Tickets have been assigned based on the number of registrations per school. We ask that each Faculty Representative distribute these tickets to his/her students. If tickets are not wanted, please return them to the information table in Lillian Welsh Hall so that another student may enjoy the class.

Adjudication Information: If you will be adjudicating, please check the posted Technical Rehearsal Schedules to insure your arrival in plenty of time for the event. I also encourage you to refer to the Policies for Adjudication posted on our website before your arrival. It is best to make sure prior to adjudication that your piece(s) meet all guidelines. In order to accommodate everyone, we must adhere strictly to these schedules. In the hopes that the adjudication sessions and performances proceed efficiently, please require your students to be ready to perform half an hour ahead of their scheduled time.

Meet the Adjudicators: On Wednesday, March 12, from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. in Merrick Lecture Hall, we will have a special session for you to meet the adjudicators. This will be your opportunity to hear how each adjudicator likes to evaluate work and what you might expect from them. This event has been successful at other conferences and should make the adjudications and feedback sessions much more valuable for all concerned.

Membership Meeting: We encourage each participating institution to have a faculty and student representative present at the ACDFA General Membership Meeting scheduled on Friday, March 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. Please join us in Buchner Hall and do not forget to bring your lunch!

After these months of correspondence and phone calls, I am looking forward to meeting and/or reconnecting with all of you in person. I hope your trip to Baltimore will be safe and enjoyable. Please contact me if you have any questions, problems, or concerns. The more we can solve in advance the more pleasant and rewarding an experience for all. If we are missing any information, you should be receiving an email from me in the near future.

Best,

Elizabeth Lowe Ahearn
Conference Coordinator
