The Goucher College community has been greatly saddened by the death of Dana V. Flax, a freshman from Stuyvesant, N.Y.
Dana and a friend had been trying to cross the intersection at Fairmount Avenue and Goucher Boulevard at about 5 p.m. on April 2 when she stepped out into traffic and was struck by a car. Dana was rushed to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in downtown Baltimore. Attempts to revive her failed, and she passed away at 3:30 a.m. on April 3. She was 18 years old.
A gathering in Dana’s memory was held on campus shortly after her death, and bus arrangements were made to transport Goucher students to a memorial service in her honor in New York.
Friends and faculty who knew Dana well say she was optimistic, quick to smile, and always willing to help anyone who needed it. She was a dedicated student of the Russian language and worked as an alternative staff member at the Gopher Hole. In the short time Dana attended Goucher, she touched many people, and she will be greatly missed here.
