The intellectual, cultural, and social crossroads of the college
The Athenaeum is spacious -- it encompasses about 100,000 gross square feet.
But what is truly remarkable about the Athenaeum is what fills that space. Sometimes people gather in its forum to take in a performance or a lecture, while others explore the library’s stacks, separated only acoustically from what’s going on outside. While some students connect to the Internet in the Athenaeum’s 24-hour computer lab, others may browse the works in Goucher’s first secure fine-art gallery. Goucher’s campus radio station broadcasts from one area of the building; in others, students exercise, study, grab a bite to eat, and sack out for a midday (or midnight) nap.
The Athenaeum is alive constantly with the energy of the people in it, coming together at the intellectual, social, and cultural crossroads of the campus community.
