Senior-year stress can really build, especially as you near graduation. Before you let it affect your health, remember campus resources like Student Health and Counseling Services (x6050).
It’s free. Every full-time Goucher student can use Student Health and Counseling Services free of charge. Though typical health issues include colds, flu, asthma, women’s health, contraception, acne, insomnia, and headaches, counselors are also available to help with a variety of emotional and psychological issues, including depression, alcohol and drug issues, interpersonal relationships, eating disorders, sexuality concerns, and abuse or sexual assault.
Free over-the-counter medicines and supplies are available for colds, cuts, muscle aches, headaches, and menstrual cramps through the Health Center’s Self-Care Clinic. The Health Center also provides laboratory studies and medication, at cost, when necessary for diagnosis and treatment. These charges can be billed to your account or paid at the time of your appointment.
Your medical record is confidential, and it is maintained separately from all other college records. Student Health and Counseling Services will not share any information about these records with anyone-including parents-without your permission.
Just make an appointment. Calling ahead will keep your waiting time to a minimum. If you call in the morning, you can usually see a health professional later that day. “Walk-in” urgent-care counseling is available Monday through Friday, from 1 to 2 p.m. In case of emergencies at other times, please call the Office of Public Safety at x6112.
Take care of health issues before you graduate.
1. Consider a smoking-cessation program, another free service of the Health Center.
2. Get a copy of your immunization record for graduate schools and employers.
3. Schedule your final gynecological annual appointment and pick up a 12-month supply of low-cost oral contraceptives.
4. Plan 6 to 8 months ahead for routine annual exams.
5. If you will be living in the area, ask the Health Center for local physician referrals.
6. Remember that your student health insurance policy is in effect until late August. You can also call and request a policy extension at a minimal cost.
