The Alternative Film Club
Contact: Sarah BeckThe purpose of the Alternative Film Club is to offer regular opportunities for Goucher College students to view independent or foreign films in order to provide a different type of entertainment experience. This will allow students to be exposed to different forms of film that are not usually available in major movie theatres or other sources for film viewing, such as Blockbuster. The films that will be shown during The Alternative Film Club's events will promote the idea that film is a vector used to illustrate a distinct message or idea, whether it is cultural, social or political. In correspondence with the viewing of each film, activities or fundraisers will be organized to address some of the subject matter explored in the film; i.e., following a showing of "God Grew Tired of Us: The Story of the Lost Boys of Sudan," The Alternative Film Club would sponsor a bake sale in which all profits will be donated to a Sudanese refugee association.
