The purpose of this organization is to educate on the institutional racism, structural poverty and violence that has been created in Baltimore City and role that institutions outside of the city play in creating this.  In addition, we will be looking at issues such as gentrification, fair housing, etc.  This organization will focus specifically on efforts by African American and Latino organizations that will work together for social justice and liberation.  Additionally, we will explore the impact of the growing Latino population in Baltimore, which would naturally allow us to focus on issues concerning immigration.  Along with focusing on Latino immigration into the United State, we will also focus on the destructive policies that have forced internal migration of Baltimore city residents, therefore focusing not only on immigration into the United State, but also on forced internal migration.  This will also allow us to explore displacement in its many forms.  The reason why this organization will combine the political activism of both Latino and African-American struggles is based on Fidel Castro's philosophy that "Africa runs deep in the veins of Latin America."  This organization wishes to shed light on the fact that Latin America and Africa share similiar roots and history and the Diaspora of both specifically in the United States has presented a dynamic political relationship; one which at times has been powerful and at others conflictive.  The medium through which we will explore this dynamic is through spoken word poetry, panels and workshops.  We will bring leaders and organization that work with related issues in Baltimore city.
