Glowing Gopher Award

Description

The Glowing Gopher is an award established by the Office of Residence Life at Goucher College in the fall of 2004. Its purpose is to recognize residential students who have demonstrated good citizenship, enthusiasm and interest in residential life, as well as respect for the residence halls and their peers. Candidates are nominated by their peers, staff and faculty and chosen by a committee of representatives from various campus departments and student organizations.

Selection Criteria

Qualified candidates will demonstrate one or more of the following:

  • Interest and active engagement in residential life
  • Strong commitment to community standards and principles
  • Willingness to encourage, support and foster good relationships between house mates
  • Exemplifies the mission statement of the college
  • Ability to coordinate social, educational and/or service-oriented activities for the house
  • “Promote a vibrant, engaging, and exciting living and learning environment” (Strategic Plan)

Presentation of Glowing Gopher Award

One Glowing Gopher Award winner will be chosen each semester. He or she will have his or her picture featured in the Goucher College Quindecim with a biographical article and explanation of their achievements. Formal recognition will take place at the annual Student Leadership Awards reception.
