Cynthia Terry has been Goucher’s Chaplain since August 2005. She came to Goucher from Yale University, where she served as associate university chaplain for more than a decade. She brings much experience in higher education chaplaincy to Goucher. In her work at Yale, she co-facilitated bereavement groups for students, taught courses in Women’s Spiritual Autobiography, provided pastoral care and counseling, organized programming for multi-faith services, and served as a freshman adviser. She regularly made presentations for the women’s center, orientation events, sororities, and gay and lesbian peer counselors.
Cynthia has been active in the larger arena of chaplaincy in higher education; she has served as vice president, president, and historian for the National Association of College and University Chaplains. She is ordained in the United Church of Christ and is active in that denomination. She graduated from Yale Divinity School in 1993, where she also served as Facilities Manager. From 1987 – 1989, Cynthia served in Zaire as a primary school teacher with the Presbyterian Church (USA). She holds a master of divinity degree from Yale University, and a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from James Madison University.
She lives in the Baltimore area with her partner and their two young sons.
