Professor Thom Woodson has an extensive performing and choreographic career both nationally and internationally. She has performed throughout Great Britain with her dance company Zip, and locally with companies such as Surge Dance Company, Kinetics Dance Theater, and The Moving Company. Her work has been presented in London, England and at the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival, Scotland as well as throughout the United States. She was the recipient of the London Choreographic Award, presented by the Arts Council of Great Britain and has received numerous Goucher faculty research awards for her choreographic and dance reconstruction works. Professor Thom Woodson is a certified dance teacher in the state of Maryland and holds the advanced professional certificate. She is the chair of dance at the magnet high school, Carver Center for Arts and Technology, where she founded the department. She serves as a consultant for dance education and has developed specialized dance curriculum for Baltimore city and county schools. She is also a certified teacher of Labanotation and has served as a checker of works by Doris Humphrey for the Dance Notation Bureau. In addition, she is currently involved in developing a text for dance notation with the use of DanceForms, a computer-generated imagery program used in dance. Her courses include all levels of modern dance technique, Intermediate and Advanced choreography, Repertory, Dance Education methodology and pedagogy, Labanotation, and independent work in notation, choreography, performance skills, and dance education. Beyond her involvement with the dance department, Professor Thom Woodson has been involved in developing and leading several international experiences for the student body, including trips to West Africa, India and Brazil. Professor Thom Woodson is Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and Professor of Dance and is involved in numerous committees at Goucher.
