When we think of the great evacuations of humanity that accompanied Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, it’s easy to forget that these back-to-back Gulf Coast storms triggered a second desperate evacuation-unprecedented efforts to save thousands of stranded pets. At the eye of that operation was Anne Culver ’70, who helped manage the relief effort of the Humane Society of the United States as its director of disaster services.
