Elisa Koehler is an Assistant Professor of Music at Goucher College  where she conducts the Goucher Chamber Symphony and teaches introductory courses in music theory and history as well as private lessons in conducting and trumpet. She also serves as the Music Director and Conductor of the Frederick Symphony Orchestra (www.fredericksymphony.org). She earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Orchestral Conducting from the Peabody Institute, a Master’s degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Tennessee (Knoxville), and Bachelor’s degrees in both Music Education and Performance from Peabody. Her principal teachers include Frederik Prausnitz (conducting), Catherine Leach (trumpet), Wayne Cameron (trumpet), and John Spitzer (musicology). Her articles have appeared in numerous publications including the Conductors Guild Journal, The Heritage Band Encyclopedia, the International Trumpet Guild Journal, Maryland Music Educator, and Alta Musica. An active professional trumpeter, Dr. Koehler has performed with the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Lyric Brass Quintet. She has also performed and recorded on period instruments with the Bach Sinfonia, the Orchestra of the 17^th Century, the Handel Choir of Baltimore, and Newberry’s Victorian Cornet Band.
