Dr. Hyun Kyung Kim holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in music composition from The Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, and a Doctorate in composition from the University of Maryland at College Park. She also studied music technology at New York University.

Her compositions have been prize winners in the 2005 Sejong Music Performance Competition and the 2003 SCI/ASCAP Composition Competition. At Peabody she won the 2001 Otto Ortman Award and the 2000 Prix d'Été competition.

Dr. Kim teaches Introduction to Computer Music (MUS.210) and Computer Music Theory and Practice (MUS.213). She also oversees student computer music employees and recording and dubbing of music department events. Dr. Kim also teaches computer music in the Goucher Summer Arts Institute.
