Internships

Academic vs. Non-Academic Internships

Through the internship program, Goucher College is committed to supporting quality internship experiences that help students explore career paths, enhance skills, and provide opportunities to experience the world of work.  Students can choose to do an academic or non-academic internship. For academic internships, credit is awarded through an academic department by following the internship checklist and they can fulfill the Off Campus Experience requirement for students who entered Goucher before fall 2006.  Credit is not awarded for non-academic internships and students do not need to follow standards for academic internships.  The CDO assists students in their search for internships, whether the internship is academic or non-academic.

Earning Credit

If you are interested in earning credit for your internship, first be sure to follow steps in the internship checklist on the Internship Learning Agreement (ILA).  Keep in mind that the guidelines and policies were developed to create the best possible environment for you to learn from your internship.  In order to register to receive credit for your internship, you must complete a typed ILA. Click on "Save As" to save your ILA to your A:, G:, or C: drive. Once the ILA is complete, print the form and then obtain signatures from your academic adviser, faculty internship sponsor, and site supervisor. Completed forms should be submitted to the the CDO. If you have questions about completing the ILA, review the Sample ILA or contact the CDO.
