Since Goucher's limited-residency MFA in Creative Nonfiction began in 1997, its students and alumnae/i have published more than 70 books. Their articles and essays have appeared in such publications as Best American Science and Nature Writing, The New York Times Magazine, Village Voice, Salon, The Daily Beast, Creative Nonfiction, Fourth Genre, Antioch Review, River Teeth, and the Washington Post.
Their awards include an Ellis Island Medal of Honor, the New York Book Festival Award for best historical memoir, USA News Best Book in World History, the Southern Book Critics Circle Award in Nonfiction, the Atlantic Book Awards' Dartmouth Nonfiction Award (Canada), the Evelyn Richardson Prize for Nonfiction (Canada), the Alicia Patterson Fellowship, two Associated Writing Program Intro Awards in creative nonfiction, and first place, in Fourth Genre's Annual Editors' Prize. Their books have appeared on the bestseller lists of The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times.
