Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the Goucher College Committee of Visitors will take place April 3 and 4, 2008.  The meeting will convene at 3 p.m. in Buchner Hall on Thursday, April 3, and will adjourn after lunch on Friday, April 4.

This year, our honored speaker will be Albert J. Mora, recently retired general counsel of the U.S. Navy. For his efforts to speak out against the cruel and abusive interrogation methods of U.S. military personnel at Guantanamo Bay and the high-level shifts in government policy that made these tactics common pratice, Mora was honored with the 2006 Profile in Courage Award from the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation.

About the Committee of Visitors

Formed in 1999 as a non-governing body of the Goucher College Board of Trustees, the Committee of Visitors draws its membership from a mix of corporate citizens, nonprofit and foundation executives, Goucher alumnae/i and parents, and other individuals committed to the college’s educational mission. The duties of chairing the committee are shared by President Sanford J. Ungar and Trustee Fern Karesh Hurst ’68.

The Committee of Visitors functions as an advisory board, observing the impact of the college’s programs and initiatives and serving as advocates for the college in the world at large. Members of this diverse group are charged with

  • promoting the college’s heritage, goals, and programs within various constituencies;
  • counseling the president and administration on programs, services, and activities that will strengthen the Goucher community;
  • advancing the development of the college’s resources; and
  • introducing others to significant programs and contributions made by Goucher students, alumnae/i, and faculty.
