Type of Program: Intensive Course Abroad
When Offered: January 1-21, 2017
During this Intensive Course Abroad, students can complete Spanish 130 in Alicante, Spain, the "City of Sun," during the January 2017 term. Students will take Spanish language, conversation, and culture classes daily and will visit numerous cultural and historical sites in and around Alicante. These excursions will bring to life many of the topics covered in Gateway to Alicante, a required course for all accepted applicants during the second seven weeks of fall semester. As part of the total immersion experience, participants will stay with Spanish host families. The Faculty Directors will be Maite Gomis-Quinto and Jeanie Murphy.
Eligibility, Prerequisites, and Academic Credit
Students with a 2.5 or higher GPA who have completed, are currently enrolled, or will be enrolled in fall 2016 in SP 120. Those recommended for SP 130 via Goucher's Spanish Placement Test are also eligible. If you are a first-year student, you must be in good academic standing in all courses. Students will receive 1 credit for the course Gateway to Alicante taught during the second seven weeks of the fall 2016 semester. Students will receive 4 credits for the three-week intensive course in Alicante. Students will obtain a total of 5 credits.
The tentative cost of the program is $4,585. This fee includes lodging, two meals per day, transportation within Spain, excursions, and insurance. Airline tickets (estimated at $1300 from Washington D.C. to Alicante, Spain), which are reflected in the above price should be purchased separately. Costs including daily lunches and other personal expenses are not included in the program's tentative cost. Please see the reverse side to see all program costs.

May 9, 2016: $500 non-refundable deposit due
September 16, 2016: Final payment, photocopy of main page of passport and health forms are due
All students are eligible to apply for OIS scholarships. There is a scholarship section on the main application form in each program application packet. Students entering Goucher beginning in fall 2014 may apply for a Goucher Global Grant.
Passport and Visa Information
