Orientation introduces your student to all aspects of his or her first semester at Goucher-the classes, people, and places. It also gives families a chance to get to know us, and one another, a little better. Below is a schedule of our Family Orientation on Wednesday, August 20.

General information:  

10 a.m.-3 p.m. Student check-in, Dorsey Center Courtyard  

10 a.m.-4 p.m. Bookstore open, Pearlstone Student Center  

11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Free refreshments, Weinberg Jewish Student Center (Stimson Hall)  

12-3:30 p.m. The library will be giving tours. Meet in the Information Commons at the library's main entrance, and tours will start periodically as groups form.

Sessions on students' transition to life at Goucher:  

12:45-1:45 p.m. Keys to Academic Success, Athenaeum Room 422

This is an exciting time in your child's life: College academic routines are quite different from high school, and his or her brain is still developing. Goucher provides all students with a first-year adviser, along with a variety of support services, to help them in this journey. Presenters include President José Bowen and the college's key academic leaders.                                    

12:45-1:45 p.m. Change Happens, Batza Room, Athenaeum

A child beginning college is a significant transition for any family, whether it's your first or fourth child to attend college. Learn about what you should expect in the coming months, and how you can support your student to thrive socially and emotionally at Goucher. Presenters include the vice president and dean of students, college chaplain, along with other staff members.  

2-3 p.m. Keys to Academic Success, Athenaeum Room 422

This will be a repeat of the information presented at the 12:45 p.m. session.

4:30-5:30 p.m. New-Student Convocation, Kraushaar Auditorium, Dorsey College Center

Celebrate with students as they mark the beginning of their academic journey with an induction into the community of learners at Goucher College.  

5:30-6 p.m. Welcome Reception, Dorsey Center Courtyard

Students and family members are invited to mingle with staff and the Orientation Committee before families head home and students continue with the evening portion of Fall Orientation.
