SERVE

Students in the SERVE program will work with Sandtown Habitat for Humanity in West Baltimore City, becoming acquainted with the organization and the city. Habitat volunteers participate by addressing the organization's greatest needs, such as clearing out abandoned homes and yards; masonry; insulation; drywall; painting; landscaping; light carpentry and framing; and foundational work such as loading, unloading, and organizing materials.

SERVE participants will spend two days in Sandtown, an afternoon touring the colonial Hampton Mansion and its grounds, and return to campus at night for dinner and follow-up activities. All students will be assigned to a common section of Connections (the required first-year course). Students will also have the opportunity to continue working with the service-learning project as the semester begins.

Cost of the program is $100 per student, with openings for 15 students.
