The residence halls close for all non-graduating students on Friday, May 12th, 2017 at 10:00 p.m. At that time all students who are not graduating are expected to depart for the summer. Students should plan to depart campus within 24 hours of their last final examination. Information about applying for a travel extension as well as an overview of our closing process can be found below. Graduating students can learn more about their closing dates as well under the Graduating Students subheading. General Closing Reminders

  • Students should plan to depart campus no more than 24 hours after their last final examination.
  • Non-graduating students are required to sign up to check out with their RA's before they depart for summer break. 
  • Residents can find sign-up sheets on their RA's doors. 
    • Residents should sign up no later than 24 hours in advance and plan to leave upon completing this checkout. 
  • When students depart, their assigned rooms need to be in the condition that they were during fall move-in. 
    • Students should thoroughly clean their rooms, meaning they are empty and in the condition that the rooms were in when students first moved in. If students reside in a suite or apartment, they will need to clean their common rooms and bathroom as well. 
    • Students must remove all personal belongings from their room before departure. 
    • All college furniture assigned to the room must be present and accounted for before students check out with their RA. Students will be charged if furniture is missing.  
    • Students should close and lock all windows and their doors before departing.
    • Students must depart their rooms upon checking out.
  • Students must return their room key to the Office of Residential Life. The deadline for non-graduating students is Monday, May 15th, 2017 and the deadline for graduating students is Monday, May 22nd, 2017. Failure to return your key before your assigned deadline will result in a $120 charge to your student billing account. Keys will not be accepted after the deadline. 
  • Students can place their key in one of the envelopes found outside the office. Students should write their name and room number on the envelope.
    • If the Office of Residential Life is open, it can be turned into the front desk staff.  
    • If the Office of Residential Life is closed, students can place their labeled envelope & key in the drop box to the right of the office's front door.

24 Hour Quiet Hours

  • 24-hour quiet hours will be in effect from Friday, May 5th, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. through Friday, May 12th, 2017 at 10:00 p.m. 
  • During this period quiet must be maintained at all times in the residence halls. Any loud gatherings or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
  • Failure to abide by quiet hours will result in sanctions through the student conduct process as well possible fines.

Storage

  • The Office of Residential Life offers limited storage on campus to returning students. Storage space is offered on a space available basis. Items may be stored in our unit for up to a full year.
  • Beginning on Monday, May 1st, 2017, the Office of Residential Life will begin selling storage space and boxes. The only accepted forms of payment are cash and gopher bucks. 
  • Any items that students plan to store must be packed in the standard boxes supplied by the Office of Residential Life. The only exception is refrigerators. 
    • Boxes can be purchased at the Office of Residential Life during business hours, which are Monday through Friday 9:00 am- 5:00 pm. Only boxes purchased from our office will be accepted.  
    • Pricing, as well as other information, can be found on our website at this link. 
  • Students can begin dropping off storage items to our units beginning Monday, May 8th, 2017, between the hours of 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The storage units cannot be accessed after Friday, May 12th, 2017. For access to the unit earlier, please contact April Lee at April.Lee@goucher.edu.  

Microfridge

  • Microfridge will be emailing students directly to let them know the pick-up date for their rental micro-fridges. 
  • 24 hours before the pick-up date OR the student's departure date, students must remove all food from and unplug their units so that they can properly defrost. 
  • When defrosting their units, students should place a towel in the freezer section. Students should not try to remove any ice with sharp objects. 
  • Students should fully clean and dry the unit before departing. 
  • If a unit requires cleaning or has missing or broken parts, the student on the rental agreement is responsible for all costs. If a unit is not returned, then the student will be responsible for the cost of replacing the unit.

Graduating Students

  • The residence halls close for all graduating seniors on Friday, May 19th, 2017 at 10:00 p.m. 
    • Please review all other headings for closing specifics. 

Extended Stay Requests

  • Non-graduating and graduating students that cannot leave campus by 10:00 p.m. on their assigned closing date, due to travel issues, may apply for an extension. 
    • The deadline for all students to apply is 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 11th, 2017.
      • Non-graduating students may only apply for extensions to stay until 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13th, 2017.
      • Graduating students may only apply for extensions to stay until 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 20th, 2017. 
  • Non-graduating students who need to stay on campus through senior week can also use this application to apply for permission to stay past their closing dates. 
  • Applications for travel extensions will be reviewed on a case by case basis by the Office of Residential Life. Students will be informed via email if their application has been approved.
