Why should you join the Physics Program at Goucher?

The Physics and Astronomy Department offers a major in physics with two distinct tracks: Advanced and Applied Studies in physics and astronomy. In the Applied Studies track students can choose concentration in computer science, materials science or premedical studies. In addition, the Physics and Astronomy Department offers a minor in physics and six dual-degree programs in electrical and computer science engineering, materials science engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, biomedical engineering, and chemical engineering.  Student may also elect to take specialized courses in collaboration with the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the Johns Hopkins University

Celebration of Physics: What can I do with my Physics degree?

On Friday, October 19, Joel Tenenbaum, ( '06), Ann Thomas, ('06) and Jay Zeck, ('05)  will come back to their Alma Mater  to talk about their post-Goucher careers for the event "Celebration of Physics: What can I do with my Physics Degree?" .  Joel, graduate student in physics at Boston University, will introduce his high-energy research work on the  ATLAS detector currently being constructed at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland. Ann, test associate for Microsoft Inc. in Seattle, will talk about her career in industry and Jay will speak about his study of medicine at George Washington University.

This event is sponsored by the Taylor lecture fund, the Career Development Office and Physics/Astronomy club. It will be held at 3pm in Hoffberger Science B26.

Michelle Marx's paper has been selected for publication in Verge
Michelle Marx’s research paper "An Anomalous Reaction of Silicon Oxide and Aluminum via Ball Milling" nominated by physics professor Ali Bakshai has been selected for publication in the fourth issue of Verge, which will be published in the fall of 2007. Verge received over 75 papers this year, and 10 were selected, so it’s quite an honor that this paper was selected. Congratulations to Michelle and her mentor Dr. Bakhshai!
