Mid-Semester Withdrawal for Medical or Emergency Reasons

Students who have a medical or other type of emergency during the semester and need to withdraw from their courses must make an appointment with the vice president and dean of students. At that time, the following options are available:

  • After the add/drop period has ended and before week 10 students can withdraw and receive a “W” in their courses.
  • If the withdrawal occurs after week 10, the vice president and dean of students, in conjunction with the student’s instructors, will determine if an incomplete, a “W,” or a letter grade is warranted, depending on the amount of work completed and the nature of the emergency.
  • The official date of withdrawal will be the last date of academic activity as determined by the college.

Students returning the next semester do not have to complete a leave-of-absence form.

Students who do not intend to return the next semester will need to complete a leave-of-absence form and follow leave of absence procedures. (http://www.goucher.edu/x1588.xml).

Students who intend to withdraw permanently from the college should complete an official withdrawal from the college form and follow withdrawal procedures.
