Graduate Students Learn Leadership on the High Seas
Graduate students enrolled in Leadership and Self-Development jump start their learning through serving as crew on sailboats on the Chesapeake Bay for five days.
Graduate students got their feet wet this July as they embarked on a five-day journey on the Chesapeake Bay to gain leadership skills and work on self-development. Partipants crewed one of two 40-foot plus sailboats. The trip is part of PMGT601 Leadership and Self-Development. The class lasts a full semester, but many of the skills and knowledge are developed during the first couple of days on the high seas.
The goal of this course is to help students understand that leadership needs to drive towards empowering people to sustain the identity of their community on their own terms. And, perhaps, to have a little fun along the way, too.
