Spring 2012 Innovation Grant Winners

The President's Office is proud to announce the Spring 2012 Innovation Grant winners.
For 14 years, the Innovation Grant Program has provided seed money to implement many exciting and effective campus projects proposed by Goucher students, faculty, and staff.
Past projects include Goucher's recycling and composting initiatives, a program to support academics in the Baltimore City public schools, a faculty/staff yoga class, a clean stream project on campus, and the support and expansion of study-abroad opportunities.
Funded by the Office of the President, grants generally range between $200 and $5,000. The typical project is awarded between $1,000 to $2,000. This year, 14 excellent project proposals were submitted.
The selection process was very competitive, but the following four projects were chosen to receive Innovation Grants this semester:
Getting to Know Baltimore One Saturday at a Time: Unique Neighborhoods, Engaged Citizens
Awarded to: Nina Kasniunas, associate professor of political science
Purpose: To establish a monthly program through which faculty in the Political Science and International Relations departments invite students to a Saturday lunch in one of Baltimore's many neighborhoods.
Development of the Goucher College Library E-book Collection
Awarded to: Kristen Welzenbach, digital systems and services librarian, and Angela Gasca '14
Purpose: To allow for the selection and purchase of e-books in the library by Goucher faculty, students, and staff.
Bridge 2 Peace Through Art
Awarded to: Alexa Del Piano '14
Purpose: To work with children in Sri Lanka who were traumatized by the tsunami on artwork and bring these projects back to showcase to the Goucher College community.
Con Mi Propio Voz Alta: The Latino Immigrant Voice
Awarded to: Suzanne Salladin '12
Purpose: To work with Latino immigrants to express their experiences through art and then display their works in a gallery setting on campus.
